To create a positive difference in our previously disadvantaged communities by inspiring the youth to live a healthy and active lifestyle
Our Aim
To create a positive difference in our previously disadvantaged communities by inspiring the youth to live a healthy and active lifestyle, keeping them off the streets and building a sense of belonging and empowerment through the process of becoming stronger and more confident so that they have no limitations.
Youth benefit from exercise not only physically but also emotionally, socially and mentally. CrossFit has the ability to teach our youth accountability, dedication, leadership and most importantly self-esteem.
We would like to set up a gym in Soweto with CrossFit methodology, at the Morris Isaacson High School .
Why Soweto
Soweto was created in the 1930s when the white government started separating Blacks from Whites, creating black “townships” during Apartheid. Soweto came to the world’s attention on 16 June 1976 with the Soweto uprising, when mass protests erupted over the government’s policy to enforce education in Afrikaans rather than their native language. Police opened fire in Orlando West on 10,000 students marching from Naledi High School to Orlando Stadium. The rioting continued and 23 people died on the first day in Soweto, including the young Hector Pieterson.
Vilakazi street is now the most famous street in Soweto and is the only street in the world to have produced two Nobel peace prize winners – Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu.
The suburb of Orlando in Soweto attracts large groups of tourists with many attractions including the Hector Pietersen Memorial, Nelson Mandela’s House and a 100m bungee jump from the Orlando Towers.
In time we would like to extend this project to other townships.
To be apart of empowering the youth and changing lives.
Giving previously disadvantaged individuals access to the sport of CrossFit methodology.
